Howard Darr asked about this. I can't speak for everyone. For real vintage rides I use clips and pedals (except for the Cinelli-equipped bike that gets Cinelli Widow-makers). For commuting and fixed gear, I strongly prefer riding with double-sided SPDs, set pretty loose. I don't know of anything I can get into and out of quicker, and there is enough angular slop to avoid knee pain. You can take away the indexed shifting, integrated shifter-brake levers, double pivot brakes, and whoop-de-whoop wheels, but you're going to pry the SPD's off my cold dead feet... :-) Ooops. Mine are VERY early spds, Dale. Found them on the Vent Noir one day... :-)
