Roy D asked the defining question on the issue: If you were having a 'Nuovo Classic' bike built to your measurements and specifications today, what would you have on it.

Ahh, the "To Ahead or not to Ahead" issue,

Since level top tube lugged frame designs generally require a longer head tube to compensate for the lack of vertical section of stem, (2 inches of spacers doesn't seem like a good solution to me), my only real "ahead" issue is with the necessary 'head tube' extensions.

I think most extended lug arrangements I've seen are ugly executions. Why have a thick hunk of steel sticking above the top tube when all the design detail is below? I haven't seen many good looking cutouts or window treatments on upper extended head lugs.

So if you can ride with your bars low, go ahead! (bad pun) Maybe it will just take some time getting used to the elongated design of the extension, but right now I still think that an ITM racing 400, TTT record or synthesis, even a Deda murex looks better. Heck, feel free to match that record Ti post with a Cinelli Grammo if that removes your socks!

IMHO just painting an ugly ahead stem the colour of the frame doesn't make it "custom".

Now, what about 31.8mm diameter handlebars?
