When did this thread start-- missed the beginning. Did someone mention that Hyman Hetchins was an Orthodox Jew and one theory for his distinctive curly stays was that he would not keep his shop open Saturdays and wouldn't prepare racers for their Sunday milk races, and was losing his clientele; he devised his curly stays to be known by the bikes he prepared that won other races even when no name was on them. BTW, he (and Jack) were both (rumoured ) to be illiterate and the lug shapes were patterned after the initial letter in ancient hand scrolled religious texts. Alan (New York)
