Schwinn Super Sport - eBay - Closing In 30 Hours

I went really browsing on eBay last night , for the first time in months . I happened across this one . This one seems to need a rescue .

If nobody else buys this one , I may have to ! Somebody stop me by buying it first !

Made November 1971 .

Fillet-Brazed , by hand , out of chromium molybdenum ( "chrome-moly" ) seamless "aircraft" tubing .

24 inch frame size , center-to-top .

Slightly lower top tube than most 24 inch frames , so if 24 inches c-t-t is slightly large for you , this may still fit nicely .

Schwinn Opaque Orange ( I'm fairly sure that's Orange , not Burgundy ) .

That stem was specially made for Schwinn by GB , of England . The stem features a large S cast into the aluminum ( aluminium ) . The aluminum ( aluminium ) alloy handlebars are wide , randonneur , also by GB , of England . ( actually I'm not 100% positive from the photo , but that's what it should have , and appears to still have )

Huret Allvit derailleur set . It has the factory-stock Schwinn-Huret head-set shift-levers . But with the brazed-on stops already on the frame , it's a natural for handlebar-end shift-levers .

Weinmann center-pull brakes .

Weinmann aluminum rims , 27 x 1 1/4 inch .

Atom / Normandy high-flange quick-release hubs .

Atom 440 , aluminum & steel , pedals .

Fairly new Terry saddle .

If it were my bicycle , I would carefully remove , and carefully store away , the steel kickstand , and the steel chainguard , and the steel spoke protector . There , you just made it about 5 pounds lighter . That was easy ! Now carefully remove and store away the original seatpost and clamp , and replace it with something fairly subtle , but weighing half as much . Those head-set shift-levers are lighter than you think . But still , if you like SunTour handlebar-end shift-levers , those might save a little bit of weight . ( And of course , the ones made by SunTour , and stamped Schwinn-Approved , are perfectly appropriate ! ) Now install some modern Panaracer Pasela tires . And , go have fun !!
