Nationality and precedent hold here as in other aspects of our mutual language. If there were any large flange hubs before the war, they must have been rare, so the distinction did not have to be made until the late forties. They were called Small Flange and Large Flange.... simple as that. If they were given different names in the United States, so be it. We cope with vest/waistcoat. elevator/lift. suspenders/braces and fender/mudguard. You call the hubs by your chosen name and we shall mentally translate into English English whenever we see the words. We do that when we see the Italian nomenclature so it is not too difficult for us. Stuart (we should have forgotten the tax and kept the country) Tallack in Sussex by the sea.
