I have to disagree here. If you want to bid, the only sane thing to do is wait until the last 10 seconds, because by any other method, you will pay top-dollar. This is why I use e-snipe, and have for years. It's the only reasonable way to play on ebay as a buyer.

It's true, using e-snipe I might get left out, but I'd rather that than pay too much. For stuff I really want, I make a nice, stiff, snipe-bid on e-snipe, and then hope I can get the item.

Ebay has been extremely stupid about the issue of extending auctions. They should re-write their software to extend auctions by 5 minutes every time a bid is made in the last 5 minutes. Then ebay would be like a true auction. I'd be fine with that, btw.

But, for some unaccountable reason, ebay has refused to do this. I can't imagine why, either, because both they, and sellers, would make more money that way. I've speculated that the reason ebay does not change the auction rules in this way is because they're afraid they will scare off buyers as a result. I think that's a misguided idea, but, then, I don't run the company either.
