1994 used Pinarello Montello (circa 1985) SR purchased used in LA, ridden in Santa Monica Mountains & occasional So Cal century (Solavng Big Bear).
2003 Mondonico Foco frame to be built.
The Pinarello is being retired and I am interested in restoring it. Cycles de Oro, this list, Renaissance Cycles, Bicycle Classics, the Third Hand, rec.bicycles.tech, have been crucial to maintain the bike since purchased. What I have learned in the process has been a great experience. When descending the first time on the Pinarello It felt like riding a GSXR (motorbike). Could not have been happier with the handling, experimenting with different brands clinchers helped too.
The Pinarello is not "pure", some parts are not classic.

I have replaced the headset and both hubs with Super Record NOS. The frame is chromed and in bad need of a repaint the Italian paint does not stick to the chrome. Some rust on leading edge of fork and one seta stay. If I repaint can the decals be sourced?
The freewheel has been a complex problem. All was well in 1996 when The Third Hand sold a 12-25 Oro. This freewheel has worn out (particularly 12 15 and 17). In 2003 I was unable to find a Regina Oro 6sp in 12-24 or 25. Those cogs are important for the kind of climbing (42 yrs old) and descending in the Santa Monica Mountains. The replacement I did find was from a Renaissance Cycles, they sell Regina Corsas in 12-19 and 14-27, by combining cogs from both on one body I was able to get a 12-24; not an ideal one as it is 12-13-14 instead of the 12-13-15 I used to have on the Oro. The only available FW seem to be Suntour Ultra 7 that can go as low as 12; does this need a narrower chain? But Regina Oro would be nice.
The intention with the Pinarello is to make it a ridable restoration, so then the Mavic MA2's clincher stay, the Phil Wood BB stays, the speed plays too. Tires are Vredesteins but Velomax look more correct.
The stem is the Cinelli XA the aero one is that the correct one?
