1982 Gios Super Record, sold yesterday for $3050 after 21 spirited bids. A stunning, NOS example of a highly appreciated marque and model, but (again) not one that is a true rara avis of the Cinelli Laser/Colnago Oval CX school or one of the items that appears only rarely for sale, such as a pristine Carlsbad Masi and which normally brings out high bids and usually sells privately and for a large price as soon as it surfaces.
It would appear the market place has spoken again, and NOS vintage lightweights bring a substantial premium even in contrast to perfectly restored versions of the same make and model. While I stand corrected in my views on the worth of NOS, I still prefer to ride my collection from time to time, but also appreciate the fact
that a rising tide raises all boats Can't tell if this is a good or bad thing. I guess it is good if I am selling a bike, but bad if I am trying to buy one :-)
