Hello list, I was taught many years ago to use a fag paper to set the timing on my '52 Porsche, this was as ,or more, accurate than a timing light. You set the paper between the points and turned the crank until the paper just released with a slight pull. This is the moment of opening (spark) and works like a charm. A Fag paper is thinner than a RCH. So don't get the wrong idea if you see zig-zags in my roll-away.
