A common trick to start split clamps such as these is to initially use a longer screw; after the clamp is tight enough you can remove the starter screw and put in the proper one.

Previous message: [CR]Fixed Gear & Interesting thread on brake housing clamps - pretty good timing as I nurse my screwdriver puncture wound in my finger from attempting to mount my Campy clamps on the top tube of my freshly-painted Motobecane frame ('74 Grand Record). I've gone a bit away from correctness by changing the crankset, brakes, and levers to Super Record, (not to mention the Nuovo Record bb, hubs, and headset) and opted for the Campy clamps to finish the build. The screws are just barely long enough to make it - I got 2 out of 3 mounted without drawing blood, but the third one made me holler "UNCLE!" I finally bought a longer screw and cut it off.

Are there any tricks to mounting these things?
