I have used these and they can be dangerous. The Minoura handlebar waterbottle cage I have allows the waterbottle to be launched by any pronounced bump. The bottle must be held very firmly in the cage or it pops out and almost invariably lands right in front of the front tire, usually on a down hill. That's probably why those old cages had the spring loaded clamping mechanisms the bottles were not meant to be removed until refilling, another reason for a straw beyond convinience.
