I use that phrase because, according to the pics at least, after the war, the bars that are wider at the bottom of the drop than at the top were only being used from riders from Belgium and France (thus "northerners") while some French and most Itlian riders were using bars that are square (looking from the front).

Is there another term I should be using instead?
