I agree about Dura Ace, both as to high quality and as to disliking Shimano's lack of compatibility from one year to the next. I do have a prejudice as to not liking Japanese components on European or British bikes. Since I have only one Japanese frame built up (a Japanese/Dutch Koga Miyata), that has limited my use of Japanese components. However, I think anything is fair on an American frame, and my Teledyne Titan is mostly Japanese except for Phil Woods hubs and pedals. I'm also considering replacing the Campy stuff on a Trek 660 with SunTour Superbe and using SunTour/ Dura Ace to build up a Exxon Graftek.

Sounds like you have a nice project coming along. Sorry I can't help you out
with parts, but I must comment on my own surprise when it has come to the
quality level of Dura Ace parts in general.
I must admit that I am one of those who prefers Campy over Dura-Ace most any
day of the week.Yes, the limited compatabilty/parts availablity from one year
to the next has fueled my distrust of Dura-Ace. But on the other hand, of the
Dura-Ace parts that have passed my way, I can only say they are very
high-quality designed and built components.
