plus "The Eddy Merckx story".
And the french movie "Une affaire d'hommes" (US-Title dead certain) FR1981 http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0083255/,
a crime story where the
main suspect in a murder case, wealthy real estate broker Fagyet (played by Jean-Louis
Trintignant) and the Detective Servolle (played by Claude Brasseur) are members
of the same group of cyclists. Lot of riding scenes, including the
final confrontation. nice period Jerseys and bikes!
The first scene alone is worth watching the movie: Fagyet returns to
his car parked near a bus station when he sees Servolle sitting on a
bench with a cycle wheel in hands. Fagyet approaches the stranger and
exclaims: "Hey, that's a beauty! Campagnolo?" Servolle: "Yes,
Campagnolo! handmade, true to 1/100 of a Milimeter..." and spins the
wheel (it is radially spoked) so that the Street
lights reflect in the spokes. Fagyet, admiringly: "Camppagnolo....! that is...
Great!"
Reading: i read lately Paul Kimmage's "Rough Ride. Behind he wheel with
a pro cyclist" - not period correct, but a fascinating read for
everybody interested in pro cycling.
