Larry,
I have a Raleigh Competition as you describe--I acquired it about 20 years ago from a friend who owned it for many years. Here's the sad part: I stripped the parts off and stuck them in boxes, then stripped the paint. But, I can tell you this about the bike--it was black, chromed Nervex lugs, Zeus drop outs, Zeus crank set, Simplex F and R Der., Normandy Luxe Hubs, Weinman sew-up rims, Weinman center pull brakes, and I could check the drilling for the headbadge, but I'm pretty sure it is oval since I have one in my drawer that I can't account for. As I have mentioned in other postings, I requested decal sets from Raleigh years ago for all of my frames/bikes back when they were happy to accommodate their customers. It's not my size, so it hangs quietly in the garage.
BTW, I think they called that memorable green 'Bronze Green'. Or was there also a forest green?
Regards,

In response to Jerry Moos's comments on the various versions of the Competition:
There was an earlier version of the Competition, 1969, chrome Nervex lugs a la International, oval headbadge, black or forest green. I've seen, touched, and photographed both so I know they were real. Both were too large/pricey for me or I would still be fondling at least one of them in the privacy of my own little world. Of course, now I can't find the pics on my puter, or the component list from the green one, so maybe they really were just part of some recent delusion. Worse, I may have broken the rule and actually deleted something useful from my puter. I must have been totally deranged!
