Yes, the tempo rises after the left turn onto PCH from the Balboa Peninsula and then hell breaks loose just after Main St/HB Pier.....for much of the "Dash" it was the oldest and youngest riders (Chuck & Sean) in the lead closely followed by Matty the 230+ LBS Pole-on-a-Pog riding machine. The best lesson to learn for this ride is....ask Peter Johnson about the 'art of the sheltered position'... after all of the jockeying there were 5 left (1 mi to go) at the turn N. on Seal Beach Blvd. I passed Peter and Sean in the turn well wide and saw Chuck way up the road and Derek within my grasp. I caught Derek as I was bonking harshly....Derek didn't look too-too winded so I think I *may* have indicated a right turn on the street just prior to the final right turn....old age and treachery overcomes youth and conditioning ;^) (Thank-You Sean Smith for inviting me to your wheel thru Bolsa Chica)
The Ferrari on the Ferry was a 'turn of the century' 550 Maranello.....just inches from where we were sitting with our steeds...It was good for me!! Now had it been a Daytona.....
It was a really-super-fantastic day all the way around! A big thanks to Jay and Brian....we usually do this ride in August but I was hit by a car a few weeks prior to the normal 8-26 timeframe (Tullio Campagnolo's birthday) ...in the very same stretch of PCH going through Bolsa Chica...ahh the broken collarbone memories :^)
Stay tuned for the Jan Johnson/Brian Baylis Birthday Fixed Gear Ride in early March!!!
