Marc Garcia asked if anyone: <snip> has bought a whole bike or frame just for a tiny part or bits.

Yes. As I was getting ready to pay $16 for some MTB straddle cables and carriers to rehab an old set of Weinmann centerpulls, the owner asked me why I wanted them. When I told him, he showed me a dusty back room full of nasty old bike boom castoffs. One very dirty lugless gaspipe Peugeot, almost unused, though, except for terrible paint scratches where neatly cut spokes rolled past stays and fork blades again and again, had Puegeot badged Weinmann brakes with perfect straddle cables and Weinmann carriers. I gave him $15 and carried it out the back door on my shoulder. We never concluded the $16 transaction at the cash register. I have been back there a couple of times, but it really is just a lot of junk.
