Subject: [CR]chicago veloswap report

I too attended veloswap here in chicago yesterday and I read the other two reports and I have to agree and disagree with them both. Perhaps they were my own expectations but I must admit I was a bit disapointed. I was expecting alot more vintage parts, frames, and bikes. I was expecting more dealers with vintage parts in general. I do agree however that this show does have alot of potential and looking back considering this was the first year it was a good turn out in terms people and there was enough there to keep me occupied for a few hours. And I have to say I picked up some nice parts. I may have over paid for one or two things but overall the prices were very fair. One dealer had a nice older falcon bicycle but it was sold by the time I walked over. I was tempted by an alan frame and fork for 150.00 or best offer but by the time I decided to buy it, it was gone. There was a nice early trek frame with ishiwata 022 tubing and campy drop outs but I thought 300.00 was just a tad too steep for me.

What I did pick up was as follows: pat 73 nuovo record front and rear derailleurs in pristine shape, complete with all bits and bolts for 75.00

Set of campy sr long reach calipers, both missing rubber rings, and one missing the cap bolt for 50.00

Brooks pro saddle, black, small rivets. 3 campy cable clamps and a cable guide, all for 55.00

The find of day for me was a set of campy drilled brake levers complete with black hoods although one has a small tear, world logos, for 20.00 The seller had some 80's victory levers with white hoods for 24.00, not quite sure why I didn't pick those up.

set of shimano 600 brake calipers for 10.00

I'm definately looking forward to next year.
