There were two parallelogram rear derailleurs that preceded the Campagnolo Gran Sport; the NIVEX five speed from 1938 and the J.I.C. three speed from 1946 (both french-made). The NIVEX is thought to have provided some of the inspiration for Tullio Campagnolo's parallelogram Gran Sport (the prototype was shown at year's end Paris Show in 1949).

Be aware though that I have no actual first hand experience with either of the above and can only relate what I've read in my catalog and book collection. I'm only 60 and would have been very young indeed to have ridden either the NIVEX or the J.I.C. in their heyday. I hope this doesn't negate the information I have provided to you above.
