Actually, the original Dura Ace/Crane stuff, including the black bits, dates back to '73.

Not sure this helps, but I have a Bikecology (Santa Monica) Bike Shop catalog that shows the Shimano Crane and Dura Ace Brakeset available in black. A vintage Palo Alto '77/'78 catalog lists the black Dura Ace brakes as well (a complete set NIB for $69.98!).
