Bob, the convention at Masi in Italy was to use letters to signify cities where the bikes were built (the subcontractor's city) so that there would be a letter and frame size in cm stamped in the BB (no serial number but you knew that).

So you'd see M 58 with the "M" signifying Milano or V 57 with the "V" signifying Verona etc. So logically the MC would signify "Masi Carlsbad" and not "Masi California."
