The Raleigh Team bike used the oversized caps (mid '70s) when the Pro Mk IV still had the fastback stays.
There is a Daniel Rebour drawing in the book _The World of Daniel Rebour_ that shows Jacques Anquetil's 1967 Gitane race bike with oversized seat stay caps, pointed at each end (football shaped) and curving with "J . A" stamped in the surface (page 98). Shows a piece of tape on the seat post to mark his saddle height too.
