Anything is possible. If you use a hobby spray brush like a Paasche or Iwata and replicate how the original was done... spray gold base layer, let dry, and then traslucent layer of color over that, then the result would be the same. Anything other than spraying is not going to give an even layer of paint and therefore will not be successful in making the spot disappear.
