"Seem to remember someone telling me they didn't make their own frames. Is this true?"

That's right, like a lot of shops in England, R.E.W. Reynolds did not make his own frames but he sometimes was involved with working on the lugs. While on a cycle tour in the Cotswold's, I visited the Reynolds shop and he showed me some lugs that he was cutting out special. I vaguely remember that they were for a frame he wanted to have made for himself. While I was apprenticing at Ellis Briggs (in 1975) I learned that his frames (or at least some of his frames) were made by Woodrup in Leeds. Woodrup didn't paint frames but sent them (well some of them - the more complicated ones) to Ellis-Briggs in Shipley where I was. I remember Jack Briggs telling me that Woodrup got started at Ellis-Briggs and moved on to start his own business in the 50's (I'm not positive of that date). Once when I wanted to learn how to do a fluted seat stay cap similar to my Masi, Jack called up Woodrup and they agreed to show me how this was done.

This trip to Woodrup started a small world moment for me. I took a frame they were making there back to Ellis-Briggs for painting. During the next couple of weeks, I watched Rod and Bill (the painters) turn that frame into something really interesting. It was basically maroon with multi-colored strips on the seat tube including yellow and black. I would never think that combination up on my own but I really liked and admired it. It was decaled with R.E.W. Reynolds. I wondered who the owner was going to be. About 6 weeks after I got back to the states, I went to my local bike shop - The Kettering Bike shop (where the pro shop at that time was run by Pete DeSalvo). There to my total astonishment was that very Reynolds frame.

Mark, Nick Tithecott at Lloyds Cycles has the R.E.W. Reynolds down tube trasfers. Seem to remember someone telling me they didn't make their own frames. Is this true?

I had one that needs a paint job and I'm trying to locate decals.
