Charles,

You asked about "scanning" Herse catalogues.

Xeroxes of the 3 well-known Herse catalogues are available from Velo-Retro as part of the book "Le Monde de Daniel Rebour", including this one. I think that one still is available from Chuck Schmidt. The xeroxes lose a bit in quality, but it beats paying $ 125+... These catalogues also were reprinted in New Cycling's "Rene Herse" book, now out of print.

Furthermore, the bike drawings from the much rarer first René Herse catalogue (only two surviving copies known) was reprinted with the usual VBQ quality in the latest issue of Vintage Bicycle Quarterly (Vol. 3, No. 2).

So all Herse catalogues known today are available as reprints - until another previously unknown catalog comes to light.

If you are looking for free resources online (with the poor quality that comes along with this), check out the VBQ web site under "Sample Articles" - there is a page from the above-mentioned first-generation Herse catalogue. -- Jan Heine, Seattle Editor/Publisher Vintage Bicycle Quarterly c/o Il Vecchio Bicycles 140 Lakeside Ave, Ste.
