Couple of things, Ted. I think there is a certain appeal to your point about allowing the CR timeline to expand as years click by, being inclusive and broader in it's scope.

The real issues with the CR are however not that of necessarily encouraging new people, sharing wider viewpoints, etc. The bandwidth (number & frequency of e-mails) on this list already often exceeds reasonable levels. Many people, in fact, quit the list because of the traffic. In short, the breadth and coverage of "On Topic" bikes already clogs up mailboxes. Within it's limitations of form, the CR e-list is maxed out. Some folks have suggested a complete new form, a multi topic forum deal where you log on and scan all the topics, picking those that interest you and not having to receive all the messages.. That may be a direction the CR list could take, but I honestly haven't the time technical abilities or interest to seek that out for implementation. I kinda like the list the way it works now.

Of course, there are interesting areas of old bikes that go unmentioned: balloon tired street bikes, fascinating early mountain bikes, post-Tullio's death Campagnolo, carbon and exotic material bikes, etc., etc. My long repeated contention is that someone, anyone, who wants to branch out into those areas should do that! Start other e-lists that address those exact directions & topics.

This is the point where I want to insert a quote from the <A HREF="http://www.classicrendezvous.com./CR_list_rules.htm">CR list rules</A> page:

"Please note however, that this list is a privately owned forum which extends invitations to like-minded enthusiasts. Unlike many other Internet lists, it is not a 'public' entity where democratic rule apply. All invitees are required to conform to a standard of behavior. Because this list frequently produces a large amount of e-mail, many rules have to due with limiting bandwidth and maintaining civility."

Again, there is no "Board of Regents", just me! I get to make the hard decisions and although I try to be reasonably sensitive to the opinions of members, in the end it is not a democracy. I started this e-list as an outgrowth of the web site and as a personal project. I originally set focussed goals that have not changed.

So....... in the foreseeable future, the CR e-list parameters will stay with a cut off at "about 1983 and KOF's". That's what I am interested in and more than enough to handle!

Thanks for the input and Merry Christmas to all!
