Reading the comments about what constitutes a real 'Masi' and what doesn't, I am interested to hear people's comments about a few Masi's that I will be bringing in from Italy shortly.
The first one is a GC built in Verona in 1971 (BB marked V53). If the article quoted by Chuck earlier today is correct, this would seem to be a very early Confente frame. As you can see in the photos, it has been repainted after the addition of top tube braze-ons. It has also been hot-rodded with newer parts. http://www.wooljersey.com/
The second one was likely originally decaled as a GC, but may also have been labeled as an early Prestige. I am not sure where it was built, the BB number that also appears on the steer tube reads GR 52. The 52 is the frame size. I am guessing that the GR, like the V for Verona, may stand for the Italian abbreviation for the province of construction, hence Grossetto. This could perhaps be correct, as a known Masi builder: PelĂ , was then working in Grossetto. It has a mix or sand-cast and IC elements. Two of the CR list resident 'experts' (my definition, not their own definition!) have come to the conclusion that the bike is likely from 1974. http://www.wooljersey.com/
