HI Larry ,
Once again , there I go stating broad generalities as if they were facts . . .
But , what I meant was that some colors were FIRST used by Schwinn to help maintain the feverish sales of the Sting Rays .
Picking up a 1968 Schwinn consumer catalog , I see most of the Sting Rays are offered in a few of the regular Schwinn colors . They are some of the brighter colors . But still , they are the regular Schwinn colors .
But , in that same 1968 catalog , "NEW FOR 1968" , the "KRATE" bicycles , are offered in :
Kool Orange Kool Yellow Kool Red
Picking up a 1971 catalog , I see that "Kool Yellow" has become "Lemon" . And wasn't it sometimes also called "Kool Lemon" ? And was it ever officially called "Opaque Yellow" ?
And I wonder what year was the first year for that lovely shade of robin's-egg-blue which Schwinn called either "Opaque Blue" or "Kool Blue" ??
And remember , the color Schwinn called "Sky Blue" was a much darker , flamboyant blue color !
And now that I really think about it , that Schwinn color I love so much , "Violet" ( another flamboyant multi-layer color ! ) , was around before the first Sting Ray was ever sold . So even though it was a popular color for Sting Rays , it wasn't put on them first !!
And I suppose some "muscle-bike" experts might tell me that the "Krates" should not be called "Sting Rays" . . .

And I really , Really , REALLY like the "flamboyant" , "candy-apple" , purple color which Schwinn simply called "Violet" !! !!

What were those special Sting Ray colors? I thought Schwinn colors that already existed were used on Sting Rays
