Kim...

I am the last person on this list to offer advice on this subject, having asked the same question in February when I got a 1972 Peugeot PX-10e. It was the concensus that I keep the original rims and tubulars.

Best advice yet! I am running cheap Clement Stradas (three for $50 on YellowJersey.com; you can't beat that!) and I must say all who extoll the virtues of tubulars are right. Dead right. Lovely ride, light and fast. Amazing. My PX-10e is the fastest thing I own and after riding her (just got back from 60 miles on her this very minute), I would never, ever swap the original rims. It just all goes together.

Oh and tell your son a 1972 PX-10e can still be tete de la course against any carbonfibre Litespeed or Lemond out there. Today several were taught the lasting values of lugged Reynolds 531, swish 'seventies French components and tubular tyres. More than several not to mention a group of blokes with "Squadra Coppi" jerseys riding well... well let's not even mention that and start that debate again!

A PX-10e has to be one of THE lightweight icons. Enjoy.
