Just back from a wonderful trip to Italy - so many great responses with info about what where etc. Thanks Steve (Maasland) for some terrific history and help. One quest of mine was to find a pair or Marresi bike Shoes. My friends in Rome made several calls for me, got the cobblers cell phone from his wife (its hardly a factory) - and determined that he makes these shoes to order, (although no custom shaped 'lasts' and huge$$ ala John Lobb) Just whenever someone needs em!
Anyway Gianfranco Marresi sent me to what I was told was the only Campy Pro bike shop in Rome to order them. If anyone would like these shoes, they will take email orders, have the shoes made in your size with either 'retro' cleats or modern cleats, and charge 133 Euros, (They told me that included shipping to NY). Marresi also makes the same shoe with a walking sole. You can see them on line - just google 'marresi'
I spoke with an english speaking guy called Simone - The shop is called Lazzaretti (+06.855.38.28) fratellilazzaretti@libero.it
Simone also showed me a 'vintage' 50th anniv. NOS Campy set they have for sale - Im guessing its way over priced!
Anyway - hope that helps those who were interested.
