The bearings in OMAS's cartridge BB are a standard size "sealed" annular bearing and are available from any bearing supply company. I've replaced a few in the past and that's where I got them (cheap too, by the way).
Special would refer to anything other than the ubiquitous cup and cone style bearing, in this case an annular bearing.
