Since DAVES not here ,he would have pointed out the SCHWINN RECORD tire as being the originator of the high performance tire from JAPAN . IRC had a 85psi tire but it was in 1 1/4 only as I remember.The SCHWINNS came in both 27" and 700s in various weights and widths. Problems with MICHELIN ELANS(folding) was the lack of a hook bead rim,but in conjunction with the MOD E rim I found them to work well(I still have a single if someone is looking for a spare) Finally I have used WET SUIT material as a vibration barrier under cloth tape since I saw it first on a bike a friend had bought from SPENCE (1964?) be sure it is the non nylon coated version ,it somes in different thicknesses and for $10 you could probably get 10 bars worth.
