Greg, 4 cranks must be the list record. Can anyone top that? Like I related earlier, I can only count a half-break for the one that cracked at the pedal hole but didn't actually fail on the road.

Lynn asked:

So that brings another question. Were the Stronglight Campy copies susceptible to breakage ala their Campy counterparts?

Lynn, I try to stay out of the crank debate...like religion and politics...but since you asked:

I've broken two Campy cranks and two Stronglight 106 cranks (Campagnolo copies.) I went down hard on one of the drive side Campy breaks. That was back when I weighed 165-170lbs. Admittedly, I don't fault one of the Campy cranks because it had been crashed the season before. The breaks were at or just above the pedal eye. I've never broken another crank, even with my more recent off-topic MTB riding/racing at a much greater weight. And I've never broken much else, so draw your own conclusions. Ed Kasper Detroit MI

Ed: Please contact me with the details of your four (!) incidents so I can add you to the list. Please give me the handedness (Left or Right), approx. mileage, type, and location of break(s). (At vs. above the pedal eye in these cases, it seems...). Also details of any other parts you've broken over the years. Folks, no need to be shy here. If you've ever broken a "vintage" crank arm, please e-mail me off-list with the details as you know them. Otherwise, we will be under-counting.... Thanks, Greg Parker Dexter, Michigan P.S. Hugh E. can you e-mail me with the details of your two incidents? P.P.S. Has anyone personally broken more than four? That's the current record.
