Thanks for the compliments regarding seat stay caps. I personally take pride in doing them by hand and making each set like the old days with caps as opposed to using plugs. I've used plugs upon occassion, but prefer the "hard way". It gives the bike character. That particular style is my personal favorite; done on double taper seat stays. The only plugs I have deep reverence for are the double fluted beauties that Jamie Swan makes. He made me a few sets and they're absolutely awesome. I may debut a frame built with them at the upcomming Velo Rendezvous, combined with the Kirk Pacenti lugs I cut up. A knock-out combination in my opinion. Classy stay caps should be part of every exceptional custom frame. Handmade, either by the builder or a master machineist, preferably.
Gil Hatton made some pretty cool stuff for his bikes and for other people over the years. He was a machineist by trade and loved cycling also. I used to ride with him and the other people from the Medici crowd at El Dorado Park in Long Beach back in the day.

Mr B, you are one of the all time champs of
seatstay-cap shaping! Speaking of Gil Hatton, he made
a custom seatpost and stem which allowed Bill Walton
to fit on a tiny (for him!) 25" Falcon. Wonder if
that'll show up at a San Diego swap meet some day.
