Jobst Brandt, of "The Bicycle Wheel" fame, has repeatedly stated that these are among the best rims ever made. So, now a rim that originally cost $30 new is selling on eBay for $50 up, used. And, yes, the market difference is due to the greater demand for the 700C than the 27".
In fact, occasionally you can find a set that hasn't been noticed by rec.bicycles.tech lurkers, and they go for a reasonable price. I have a few sets of these rims that I intend to use to fund my retirement.
