Greetings all, I saw Chuck yesterday in the Critical Care Unit and again today after the ride as Paulie and Al came by. Chuck looked much improved today...for a scapula broken in two places, a collarbone broken twice as well as a severe cut on his back he was alert and lucid.

We did the 1st Sunday Rose Bowl ride (minus Chuck) and swung over to the accident site on the way out. Scott (Smith) and I found some tiny broken bike bits and I even found Chucks famous "Ace" comb. Only 3 of us finished the ride on this sunny 99+ degree day...it was a mite hot for riding!!!!!

BTW, I believe he was riding his Waterford Fixed Gear. I have offered him my Ken Rodgers racing tricycle from when I broke my collarbone last summer. He passed on it(he's seen me wearing a sling trying to lean on sharp turns)

With Sherry's permission, Al and I went over to see Chuck in the hospital and I must say he looks really good, considering what happened. His color was great, and he was smiling and upbeat. I know all the riding he does is standing him in good stead and I'll bet he is going to have an amazing recovery here.

Of course (looking for classic content) I asked him what bike he was riding... it was his Rivendell. But according to Sherry there was *only* a top tube dent!!!?? Leave it to a true collector to sacrifice his body and save the bike!

Hope to see/meet many of you in a coupla weeks out here.
