Welll..... I'm not so sure. Depends on what tooling they use(d) at the factory perhaps, as well as it's state of wear at the time. Operator skill too, I'd wager. I just received that cool 1971 Witcomb frameset from an eBay seller recently. It came with a vintage early Record Strada headset. The HS cup fit was so bad (binding hard on the right, clunking loose on the left, even after a clean, repack, bearing replacement with NOS Campag ones, and adjust) that I had to de-cup it and face the HT. I could watch as the crescent of new metal surface under the cutter as it slowly became a complete ring. Works great now.... Greg "tool boy" Parker Dexter, Michigan

i have no antidote for that, otoh, i don't believe the lack of machining issue is that widespread; you simply cannot proceed with various framebuilding tasks with(out) do(ing) some others first. machining the ht and bb fall into that category. e-RICHIE chester, ct Please note: message attached
