i would wager that there were locknuts of all dates lying around long after the hub shell graphics were changed. i don't think for a minute that the workers would not put these locknuts on any hubs that needed assemblin'. e-RICHIE chester, ct .006/4
My Campagnolo "No Record" large flange rear hub is locknut dated as 1965. In other words, this hub has an oiler clip and just says "Campagnolo" - it does not say "Campagnolo Record".
I think there might be a flaw in the Campagnolo Timeline, or at least a misleading statement. The timeline says that "No Record" hubs were dropped from the catalogue in 1963. However, I have a set of "No Record" hubs locknut-dated as 1965. There is not any evidence that the rear axle locknuts were replaced - why would you ever replace the locknuts ? so I think that perhaps the catalogues do not match the actual sequencing of the parts in production.
In fact every detail of this carlton flyer bike suggests a 1966 model. The bike has a steel record derailleur, cable stop on front derailleur, 151 bcd crankset w/o lip, campy headset w/o <C>, dropouts w/hole for gransport, and it appears the bike is all original. The bike even has clarks cables, white ribbed raleigh tape, and milremo star bar plugs and a period brooks pro seat. The weinmann brakes are unusual and must fit somewhere between 1962 and 1971/2.
Does anyone else have some mid 1960's "No Record" Campy hubs ??
