Pete, The 70-SP spindle is 111mm symetric. As far as I can tell, it's the same spindle as the 109mm Pista spindle with an extra 1mm on each end. So it would shift the chainline 1mm to the right as compared to the 109mm spindle. For all intents and purposes, this 111mm spindle is identical to the old Chorus road spindle. (Unless it's intended for thin wall cups, in which case it's essentially the same as the Athena spindle.) Spindles meant for a thick walled Italian BB have a shoulder-to-shoulder length of 51 to 52mm, while the spindles meant for a thin walled Italian BB would have a shoulder-to-shoulder distance of 56 to 57mm. (I think the "offical" values are something like 51.5 and 56.5mm but I've found variations from spindle to spindle.) The 113mm road spindle is asymetrical. When compared to the 109mm spindle, it has 4mm of extra length on the drive side. I actually think the 111mm symetrical spindle will work just fine but the critical issue is whether you're using thin wall or thick wall cups and for which type the spindle is intended. By the way, in my experience, a Campy spindle meant for thin-walled cups should work perfectly with Stronglight cups. I've still got an '84 Peugeot on hand as proof. If you want to drive up to Arlington, you can examine my spindle collection to take reference measurements. Also, I have half the crank puller you need. (It's a long story...) Good luck, Fred Rednor - Arlington, Virginia
