I pulled out my Hadland and he says the FC, introduced in 1947, came in both flavors. The alloy saved 4 ounces over the steel.

Did Sturmey-Archer manufacture the FC (four-speed close-ratio) hub with a steel shell at any time during its production run? I believe the alloy shell was first introduced in 1949 for the ASC and FC.
