Chris is in Minneapolis, a bit over 400 miles from Chicago. However with a trip to Minneapolis, you could check out Chris, Curt Goodrich, Bob Brown and Terry Osell.

Even though I hang out with Curt and Terry, they aren't the least bit offended when I mention that Chris' minimalist lugs are the ones that get me all wet and sticky. http://www.velostuf.com/chris_kvale_cycles.htm

His lug edges are so thin that he can only rough shape and thin his lugs before brazing. The final thinning and finishing has to be done after brazing. This is to allow him to subtly vary the the shoreline height at different areas of the lug. His methods, minimal tooling and lots of elbow grease, have hardly changed in the 26 years I've known him.
