I don't think there is any way the Legnano on eBay is 1965 as claimed. As far as I know, the Tipo Roma was the sole pro-quality model throughout the 60's. I don't know anything about the Mod 54 or Record Specialissima, but I don't think either existed before 1970. The eBay bike is clearly later than my 1967 Tipo Roma. As mentioned, it does not have the classic Legnano seatpost clamp. Further, it has a newer headtube decal rather than the brass headbadge on my 1967. It also appears to have a brazeon BB cable guide which does not fit with the 1965 date. Finally the long point lugs are different from the much shorter point lugs on the mid-60's Legnanos.

To me, a Legnano without the classic seatpost clamp is like a Cinelli without the classic Cinelli seatstay cluster. Somehow just not a "real" Legnano.

I also acquired a Mod Roma road bike to keep the track bike company. The only data I've been able to find has been from the CR web site and archives and from my own bikes. I believe that a true 60's Legnano should have the binder bolt in front of the seat post, a metal head badge, and no braze ons. Both of my bikes meet those definitions. The road bike also has a Record steel derailleur, Record front derailleur with built in cable stop and a 151 BCD Record crank. If these bits are original to the bike which I beleve to be true, this places the vintage between 63 and 67. The Ebay bike has none of these identifiers and has brazed on cable guides at the bottom bracket. I suspect that means late 70's or early 80's. Does the Ofmega crank give a hint at the correct date? Don't have an explanation for the older derailleurs though. Now, can some one comment on the Mod 54 vs the Record Specialissima vs the Mod Roma? They all appear to be toward the top of the range. Did they exist concurrently or were the spaced out over the time line?
