Norris: The lugs on Peter Brown's "Shirley"..to answer Craig Montgomery's query, are Super Champion "Oscar Egg" ones, possibly model SA 1 or 2. Rotrax seemed to favour this brand of lug in the late 40s early 50s, but then turned to Nervex later on. Perhaps it was just a question of availability. Perhaps not though, as the "Oscar Egg" range had about five different designs in it...and the Nervex Serie Legere range was difficult to come by. I recall that in the early 50s when I started learning to frame-build, we worked either with Bramptons, Chater Lea, Aerts, Ekla..or Oscar Egg. I can't remember the date of my first set of Nervex, but I do recall how difficult they were to clean up, when compared with the "Eggs"

Thank you Norris, Appreciate the info. I recognized a similar pattern on my '52 Viking. Also the Taylors used Oscar Eggs at this same time. And on Bob Reid's site several Flying Scots from this period (late 40's/early 50's) have them. Sam Lingo turned me on to a post from Tom Hayes a few years back, quoting you about some lugs on a Viking Path. It may be my bike or one similar, as I got it from an Elizabeth Marsh in the UK about this time. You were pretty convincing, but I'd like to confirm the lugs I have as Oscar Egg if possible. Are there any photos/drawings/catalogues that show these lugs? Mick Butler mentioned to me a catalogue called Evian, I believe, that might have illustrations. Any body out there have such an animal?
