Subject: [CR]Due Cani tour and l'Eroica
Hey folks,
I was going to post something latter today but Aldo beat me to the
punch. The Due Cane tour culminating in the Eroica is up an running.
The tour site Due Cani Tours
http://www.duecanitours.com/home.htm
has a description of the tour and can be found by clicking on the Tours
tab at the top of the home page and then scrolling down to the Vintage
Bicycles in Chianti tour. I just wanted to add a few, what I hope are
helpful comments. As you will see, the price of the tour is now listed
but if you want a private room their is an upcharge of $500 so......if
CR list members are going without their significant others you would be
well served to find a person who you could bunk with for 8 nights. If
you have a problem finding someone, the organizers will try to pair
people up. Also, I just wanted to say a word or two about what kind of
bike you might want to bring. The week before the Eroica, although
there will be other things scheduled besides riding, will emphasize
rides in Chianti. For those of you who have not been their, not only is
it spectacularly beautiful, but it is quite hilly. I think it would be
a real act of heroism (suicide) if you chose to bring some early exotic
mount with 3 or 4 gears or a fixed wheel. My suggestion would be to
take a 50's - 70's ten or fifteen speed race or touring bike with as
wide gear range as you could assemble. In the end you'd have a lot more
fun on your vintage Masi than on your Gilllot with a flip flop rear hub.
Of course, if you don't mind traveling heavy you could bring both and
leave the Gillot for the Eroica ride.
Hope this helps and yes, I have a vested interest in this particular
tour.
