In a recent post my esteemed colleague and frined Thomas Adams made an egregiously erroneous statement. I will cut to the point of his error to make the point, ignoring his nice background on Campy lever hoods:

<snip>

"Campy hoods come in two flavors and three colors: shield logo vs, globe logo, and black, white and gum colored. The"shield" logo hoods are newer, and can be found occasionally for sale, especially in black or white colors; the gum are rarer. The older hoods had the "globe" logo, and a NOS, undeteriorated gum colored globe logo hood is the holy grail of vintage parts. For some reason, the Campy hoods deteriorate much more rapidly than other brands, making goods one hard to find. <snip>"

UBUS, the Universal Brake User Society, wishes to protest this slander. On behalf of Universal brake lovers everywhere (all three of us?), it is well documented that Universal lever hoods rot faster than anyone else's. Our hoods even beat GB, and they're extinct! Truly, this Record belongs to #61 and #68, not to the British 66 or the later paisano imposter. Heck, Universal hoods rot even faster than Mafacs get cracked and crusty :-)
