Subject: [CR]Newbie intro and Jubilee questions

Hi CRList,

I'm a newbie here - name's Derek Davis, nearly 50, and live in Phoenix, AZ.

I started riding in about '73 and stopped for the most part when I moved to Arizona in '87. Am now regaining interest. My stable includes:

Ellis-Briggs San Remo - built 1974

Ellis-Briggs San Remo Super - built 1976

Ellis-Briggs San Remo Super built - 1982

They are equipped variously with cinelli, campy, dura-ace, gipiemme, zeus, phil wood, weyless, huret jubilee, etc.

I've stripped the '74 and am in the process of thoroughly cleaning and rebuilding, but I've run into a couple of snags for which I'd love to have some advice.

1) I've removed and rebuilt the tension pulley of my Huret Jubilee rear, but am nervous about the jockey wheel. The screw holding it into the cage is quite tight and it is not clear whether the same screw also holds the wheel-side cage piece in place. I am concerned that removing the screw will release both the cage and the tensioning spring. I don't want to screw it up through lack of knowledge. So if there is anyone that can advise me on Jubilee maintenance, I would be most appreciative.

2) As is fairly common (according to my web/CR archive searches), the clamp hinge "ears" of my Jubilee front have cracked off, apparently from temperature-cycling while sitting in my Phoenix garage. :-( I realize its unlikely, but has anyone been successful with some kind of repair for this? I'm planning to use a Campy NR as a temporary replacement, but I'd like to put it back to original if at all possible.

TIA for any help,

.Derek Davis (Phoenix, AZ)

PS: Hi Doug F - I finally got around to joining as you suggested.

PPS: Any other E-B owners out there?
