Since the Angel of the Mountains died I've looked through endless photographs. I have a feeling that in 1958 Charly was the last rider to win the Tour on a steel cottered chainset but I just can't find the right photo. Certainly his manager Learco Guerra said Charly had the heaviest bike in the race, faily unlikely I would have thought as he rode a 53cm frame but it indicates a conservative approach.
