Having been tied up at the Honda shop for the past couple of days due to Christmas deliveries, and as I'm not in the market for a second bike before spring (little matter of selling off some surplus Harley parts first) I wasn't keeping a close look at the Raleigh listings on eBay. Then Peter drops his submission on the group and I go take a look.
Is it safe to assume that this bike was previously owned by Princess Di, or at least Keith Richards to pull that kind of money? Yes, it's a Raleigh Pro, in my eyes one of the finest bicycles ever made, but at the same time it's only a Raleigh Pro (in terms of scarcity).
If there's any indication that some kind of Raleigh collectors disease is spreading, please let me know before I do the final restoration of my Gran Sport next year - if I can pull this kind of money, I'll get it professionally painted rather than just doing the job myself.
By the way, I hope everyone's had a Merry Christmas, and found all the parts you needed for that next (re)build packaged under the Christmas Tree.

Surely this is a record price on eBay for a Raleigh Professional? Not to suggest it's not worth it (afterall, it's a Raleigh!) or that the buyer paid too much, but this intrigues. One very mediocre photo, doesn't seem to have the original rims etc. Good condition. But still there is a steady supply of Pros, most in similar shape, and the last one went for half this amount.
