Subject: [CR]Suntour Question, Decal 'find', and Under the Tree

It's been a quiet week in Carmel, Indiana, (not my home town), but a few good events:

My girlfriend, Deb, who is rapidly converting to CR-ism, is restoring her '83 Schwinn LeTour, a really nice machine (that is one of the 'good events). It has good (though 'mid-range) Suntour mechs, with aero-style downtube shifters that mount to the top side of the down tube via a single bolt. There is a two piece 'shaft' connecting the lever mounting points, with a cam that moves the left lever when the right lever is pulled. Frankly, after we disassembled the thing and cleaned the gunk out, I am not 100% sure I reassembled it correctly. and the left lever feels a bit loose. Would anyone happen to have a tech guide for this shifter or have the experience to 'walk' me thru the parts lay out? And what is the purpose of the connection between the levers?

Part II: We were hunting the usual suspects for a set of NOS decals for her LeTour, and on Friday we were passing a former Schwinn shop in Kokomo, IN (yes, that is the actual name of the town). Stopped in to look around, and asked off-handedly if he might have any old decals. Lo and Behold! he did! Bought them for 2 bucks! Only one set of the ones she needed, but he did have others too.

Part III: We found an upper end Schwinn at a Goodwill, with good Suntour Cyclone parts. These have the white coating (like Shimano's Sante group). How is this coating applied, can it be removed or painted? Don't know the year of the bike, but I suspect a bit Off Topic at 1987? But it is lugged.

Part IV: Deb, bless her heart, gave me Brooks Champion Flyer for my single speed. What a gal! She wants to come to the Cirque this year, too.

Thanks for the help. Ron Gurth Carmel, IN
