Feel sorry for poorly used tools, take the chaintool to a machine shop and have it repaired (often is possible). A chaintool that travelled across the US on the 'Bike Centennial' had the pin snapped when loaned to a friend, but now is gleefully pushing rivets again. Machinists often have a big heart about such things, and probably will do it cheap.
